    Responsibilities

    • The acupuncturist duties shall involve the care and treatment of various illnesses, diseases, and pain management to improve well-being by the application acupuncture and other Chinese medicine modalities such as cupping, moxibustion, and visualization techniques. Acupuncture applied to a wide range of health conditions including acute and chronic pain, physical injury, arthritis, headaches, tennis elbow, rotator cuff strains, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as general conditions such as allergies, musculosketal disorders, respiratory and circulatory disorders, gastro-intestinal problems, neurological, and stress disorders.

    Qualifications

    The Acupuncturist must have:

    •  Graduate of an accredited school of Acupuncture approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited Board of Certification through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOMR) Accrediting Commission and the Washington East Asian Medicine Practitioner license at the time the program was completed and passed the Clean needle technique exam.  Exception to above education: Healthcare education in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for fully licensed Acupuncturist licensure will be accepted. 
    •  Have a minimum of one year of experience as an Acupuncturist within the last three years.  Studies and experience specifically related to chronic pain management is desirable, but not required    
    • DoD changed from the American Heart Association (AHA) to the American Red Cross (ARC) as the vendor for the training (the only program accepted)
    • Possesses and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as an Acupuncturist in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U. S. Virgin Islands.
