    Position Description:

    • Supports Navy Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP), Virginia
    • Assigned to Branch Health Clinic Oceana
    • Interdisciplinary Team approach to Patient care

    Typical Schedule:

    • Part time or Per Diem
    • Monday - Friday
    • 0700 - 1900
    • 24 hours max / week
    • No Federal Holidays

    Responsibilities

    Duties:

    • Diagnose patients with common acute conditions, illnesses or minor trauma within legally accepted protocols

    • Request x-rays and laboratory tests as deemed necessary.

    • Formulate a health care plan for clinic patients emphasizing self-care responsibility through the participation of the patient, family, physician and other health care professionals.

    • Treat patients with common acute conditions, illnesses or minor trauma within accepted protocols in collaboration with a physician.

    • Collaborate with the physician in the health care of patients with chronic illnesses.

    • Maintain patient records in accordance with the clinic’s requirements.

    • Analyze the results of the health care plan, modify the health care plan as needed, and implement and participate in follow-up.

    • Participate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist. 

    • Participate in the provision of monthly in-service training to non-health care-practitioner members of the clinical and administrative staff on subjects germane to the HCW’s specialty.

    Qualifications

    • Possess a Master’s, Post-Master’s or Doctorate degree accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)

    • Possess a minimum experience of six (6) months as a NP in a primary care outpatient setting (defined as family practice, urgent care, acute care) within the last twenty four (24) months.

    • Possess and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

    • Possess a current, valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner License from any US jurisdiction
    • Possess certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or National Certification Corporation (NCC), in Family Practice
